Our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against the structures, against the systems, against the powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

The myth of the individual serves to protect the system in so many ways

How many years old were you when you started using a Unix compatible shell like sh, bash, zsh, ash, ksh, fish, csh, tcsh, dash, etc...?

How many years old were you when you started using the command line?

what if hope isn't in space *or* off in the forest. what if hope being embodied by some Other Place is a necessarily colonial mindset. what if hope has to exist with what you can do where you are in order to even be hope.

Star Trek

Klingons are the only part of Star Trek that would be just as at home in Star Wars and that's what really sets them apart from the rest of the Trek universe.

Star Trek

Worf stories are suffused with high-concept melodrama because Worf is a Greek hero, who starts his arc as a member of a legendary crew before coming into his own as a mythic figure in his own right. He and Jadzia have terrible chemistry but aren't they Oedipus and Euridyce? His quest to get her into Sto'vo'kor is very like Oedipus's journey to Hades, and his battle against the Jem'hadar at the prison asteroid could have been taken from the Táin Bó Cúailnge.

I think I finally understand why I love the Klingons so much. It's because they bring a space-operatic, mythic character to the franchise that it doesn't really get anywhere else. Klingon arcs are always about something fantastical, something legendary -- saving the Empire, resurrecting the dead Emperor, getting Jadzia into Sto'vo'kor, visiting Gre'thor. Big, theatrical, legendary stories is where they shine. They're right out of Shakespeare, who was, of course, Klingon.

I want all my comrades to buy boats and link up in a seasteading aqua-commune.

Star Treks 2 and 8 are action films that don't take any time exploring the unknown or advancing humanity. They're also consistently the top-rated of all the films.

fans really tell on themselves when the movies they tell you are the "best" are the least Trek-like movies of the lot.

I still want the personal computing future where we communicate with our own private, personal, physically localised digital assistant using languages and not apps. Or at least apps that we could compose just as easily as we compose symbols in equations or words in sentences.

It's 2021, and we tolerate a frankly *terrifying* level of both app-silo-ing and man-in-the-middle-ing of increasingly intimate and irreplaceable personal and business memory.

This path is not going to end well.

It's ironic that the kind of people most likely to say "use your brain" are the same kind who have no fucking idea what's going on.

What the fuck did I just watch

just about every permutation of dealing with the bourgeoisie has been tried, from mass murdering them (China's Cultural Revolution), to re-education (the USSR), to exiling them (Castro's solution), to attempting to let them live but under the thumb of a communist state (Deng Xiaoping's innovation.)

regardless of your solution you WILL have remaining enemies of the revolution and they WILL lie about you, and credulous liberals in other countries WILL wring their hands about your authoritarianism.

every damn day i have to be confronted with pearl clutching over the savagery of my ancestors for human sacrifices and yet here we are in 2021 and the white capitalists are sacrificing 8 billion people and a whole planet for profit. like, fuck, my guy, my ancestors took maybe one person and treated them like a god for a year before tossing them onto the slab. what the fuck is THIS?
